There are things, besides big birds and heavy doors, that make Finland a pretty unique place. This time I’ll talk about three things I’ve seen since I moved to Finland, specifically to a TYS apartment. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did:
1.Sweet Welcome Package.
I live in a shared apartment with two more girls. When I opened the refrigerator for the first time, I saw NINE -BRAND NEW- BOXES OF CHOCOLATE. I first thought they were my roommates’, but after asking each other, we realized that the previous owner had left a treasure behind. And for that, we will always be grateful.
In order to share, we opened the boxes and left them above the microwave, that way, the three of us felt free to take more than one without being judged, and without knowing it, we created a system: what’s on the microwave, is for sharing -because sharing is caring and my roommates are awesome-.
2. Free Stuff
Ok, this I have seen only once, but it was more than enough to realize that I live in a nice place, surrounded by nice people.
Someone left it on the top of the garbage bin. I’m not sure of what it was, but well done for the person who did it. (YAY!)
3. Politely asking to return the clothes someone took from the laundry room.
About a month ago, I left a white shirt I really like -at the laundry room- but when I went back, I realized it was gone 🙁
I was really sad because it was one of my favorite shirts, but what I learned from the country I am from, is that things might not be where you left them, and you have to live with it. (Mom, if you’re reading this, I promise I’ll be more careful next time)
A few days ago, I went to the laundry room again -because we need to move on from sorrow and wash our clothes over and over again-. Then I found the next note:
The fact that there’s a person taking someone else’s clothes, is definitely not something I love, but people actually asking politely to return those things, deserves all my admiration.
I only have one question: What happens if something is reported as stolen?? I don’t know, but it sounds very serious to me.
Anyhow, to the two girls who wrote on the note: I hope you get your things soon (If you do, please let me know, I love happy endings)
To the person who took our clothes: Pretty please, give them back 🙁 Pink sheets are not cheap and I lost the only white shirt I brought from Mexico… but most of all, you left one girl without her only pajamas 🙁
But hey! Living at a TYS apartment is -and will always be- amazing.
