As the lease starts, each tenant will receive at least one key. The key is for personal use only, and it must be used responsibly and carefully. The key also gives you access to the common facilities for tenants (the facilities vary from location to location).
Please note that making your own copies of the keys is strictly forbidden. If you need an extra key or a key is lost, please contact the Housing Office (please read the section “If a key is lost” first).
TYS uses both traditional keys and electronically programmable iloQ keys. The iloQ key function like traditional keys, but they are programmed separately for each lease (see the instructions for using iloQ keys; please note that if the iloQ lock is damaged due to incorrect use, such as pushing foreign objects into the lock, the repair costs will be charged from the tenant).
Moving in and collecting the key
1. New tenants can collect their keys from the Housing Office starting from the first working day of the month at noon. After this, the keys can be collected at any time during the Housing Office’s opening hours. Please bring an official ID document with a picture with you and ensure that the deposit has been paid. Please note that the Housing Office may be crowded on the busiest days of moving in. Please reserve plenty of time for waiting.
Please note: If you have paid the deposit and signed the lease in advance, you may also inform TYS that another person is collecting key on your behalf (you will need to inform us in advance via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and give us the name and birthdate of the person collecting the key. This person must also confirm their identity with an official ID document).
2. The tenant moving in may also receive the key directly from the tenant moving out. In this case, it is required that the parties sign the key assignment agreement. We recommend that you verify the identity of the tenant moving in with the Housing Office. Both parties must sign the key assignment agreement in the electronic service. Please note: TYS keys are always marked with an identification marking. When you receive the keys, please make sure that there is identification marking on the key(s). If you’re not sure whether there is a marking or not, please visit the Housing Office with the key(s). When signing the key assignment agreement upon receiving the keys, the new tenant also approves the cleanliness level of the apartment.
3. As an additional service subject to a fee (€5 per visit), the keys can also be collected from the R-kioski shop at Spa Hotel Caribia, located next to the student village (address: Kongressikuja 1, 20540 Turku). Using this service, the tenant may pick up the key on the evening of the moving day or afterwards, at a time specified separately, outside the opening hours of the Housing Office (for example, in the evening, on the weekends or during a holiday; Caribia R-kioski is open 24/7). However, this requires that the deposit has been paid and TYS has been informed of the collection of the keys in advance according to the following instructions:
–Contact email@example.com latest at noon on the previous workday, and inform us that you wish to collect your keys from the R-kioski of Spa Hotel Caribia outside the office’s opening hours. Use the word “R-kioski” + your name as the subject of the e-mail and also notify the date on which you want to collect the keys. Wait for a confirmation message.
-The Spa Hotel Caribia R-kioski will hand out they keys on the day you have specified. The keys will only be given to the person who has signed the lease (an official and valid ID document is required, such as an ID card, a driver’s license or a passport). A fee of €5 is charged (paid upon key collection at R-kioski).
If you are unable to collect the keys on the day you have specified, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on the same day, at the latest. Uncollected keys will be returned to TYS and a cancellation fee of €15 will be charged.
Door access code
Some of the exterior doors of the TYS locations are equipped with a code device. You can see the door code on your tenant page underneath the housing location’s information. You can also open the exterior door with your apartment key. The access code should be stored as carefully as a traditional key.
If a key is lost
If you lose your key, please report this to the Housing Office immediately (+358 (0)2 275 0200/ email@example.com). The cost for a lost key will be charged according to the charge sheet list for liabilities. Furthermore, an assessment for each individual case will be made regarding whether the lock needs to be changed or re-serialized. The cost of replacement or re-serialization will be charged the tenant in accordance with the charge sheet for liability.
Keys for storage spaces and car heating posts
Some housing locations have apartment-specific storage spaces to be used by the tenants. You can find the storage spaces on the location map on your tenant page. Some storage spaces require their own locks. The storage spaces in Ikituuri, Haliskylä and some of the Nummenranta and Iltakajo locations have pre-installed locks that can be opened with the apartment key. As for the storage spaces subject to charge in the Student Village and the Student Houses, (reserved separately viaTYSBooking), the keys will be picked up from the Housing Office after your reserved storage period has started. Further information aboutstorage spaces.
The car heating posts (reserved separately via TYSBooking) also have separate keys that can be collected from the Housing Office after your reserved heating period has started. Further information about car heating posts.
A spare key may be obtained free of charge from the Housing Office during the opening hours; please be prepared to prove your identity.
Opening doors outside office hours
Outside office hours, ISS will take care of opening the doors (tel. +358 (0)20 515 9268). A fee will be charged for the door service, in accordance with the ISS price list (€52,08). The tenant must be able to verify their identity.
Moving out and returning the keys
After the rental agreement has expired, the keys should be returned to the Housing Office on the first business day of the following month by 12:00 (noon). The tenant moving out, must return all keys to the Housing Office no later than the next day after the tenant has moved out. Please note, that the new tenant moving in will receive the keys on the first weekday of the month at noon, even if you have not returned all your keys. You may also choose to return the key before your lease expires (please note that returning the keys does not qualify as a termination of the lease, and no rent is reimbursed for returning the keys early).
Outside office hours the keys can be returned to the Housing Office’s post box (on the wall, on the right side of the front door) by placing them in an envelope with your name and address on it. The envelopes can be picked up from the Housing Office, and he envelope and post box can also be used during busy hours at the Housing Office. In addition to the apartment keys, please also remember to return possible keys to the car parking space, storage space or tenant committee.
