Start by finding out if your home has a place for a dishwasher
Even when the apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher or laundry machine provided by the landlord, you can often install one yourself as long as your apartment has got the necessary connections for the machines. You will be able to see this from the apartment’s floorplan when getting the apartment offer. Usually, the places for laundry machines will be marked with PPK and dishwasher places with APK on the floorplan (the markings may vary a little by location).
If your apartment does not have a place for washing machines, you can use your housing location’s common laundry rooms that are reserved through the TysBooking system (either directly through the tenant pages or via the TYS mobile app).
Installing washing machines
Installing the dishwasher and the washing machine is the tenant’s responsibility. TYS requires that the installation of a dishwasher is done by a licensed plumber and that a safety trough is placed under it to prevent water damage. In TYS apartments, the dishwasher connections are provided with a check valve.
You should also be aware that your home insurance does not necessarily cover the possible water damages unless the dishwasher or washing machine has been installed by a licenced plumber.
General information on the use of washing machines
Never leave the dishwasher or washing machine unattended. Incoming water must always be closed when the appliance is not in use. The dishwasher and washing machine drain and incoming water connections must have appropriate pluggings in place whenever an appliance is not connected (e.g. when moving out!). See the video under:
If the connections drip or leak water, or the appropriate pluggings are missing, immediately make a notice of defect. Plugs can be obtained from the Housing Office and apartment inspectors can leave them in the apartments. Find more information from the property services.
