Mandatory fields are marked by an asterisk in the application form. The exclamation mark symbols next to the form headers provide more information/explanations about the field in question. We recommend reading this extra information before filling in the fields. The application form guides the user so that it recognises possible errors and reports them to the user as he/she fills in the form.
Application front page
As you begin filling in the application, be careful to select the correct application type and application reason, especially if you are requesting an internal transfer between apartments. Browse through all the options and find the one that best describes your situation.
Select the starting date based on the day on which you are ready to accept the apartment, as we send offers based on the date you provide.
Select fixed-term contract if you already know your date of moving out. Read more about rental periods and temporary agreements here.
Enter the information for all applicants carefully. It is particularly important to check that the Social Security Number is entered correctly and completely, also for your spouse if applicable, and for any children moving in with you. If you are pregnant, select “Pregnant” at the bottom of the page.
Make sure that your email address is entered correctly, as we will send all notifications – as well as credentials for application editing – and apartment offers to this email address. If your email address is already recorded in the system, it will direct you to use the existing credentials for applying.
Provide the information related to your studies so that it matches the attached student certificate. In case you are still waiting to hear whether or not you have been accepted to a school, fill in the information related to your studies to the best of your ability but do not check the “accepted to the school” option. Once you receive information about being accepted, you can add this information and the acceptance letter to your application at a later point. Non-students and young applicants have separate categories they can use in this menu.
You do not need to submit a separate attachment regarding your gross monthly earnings and the taxable value of your assets. Gross monthly earnings refer to the total sum of student allowance and possible other income per month (before taxes and other deductions). The applicant’s own evaluation of income during studies is sufficient. The applicant agrees to submit – if so required at a later date – all necessary documentation related to income, assets, and taxation. Income is taken into account when choosing tenants and it must be considered when assigning priorities between applicants. If several applicants have similar apartment needs, the lower-income applicant who has more limited means is given priority when offering apartments.
Applicants with downgraded credit ratings should contact TYS. In such cases, the apartment deposit is generally three times the monthly rent and the agreement is made out as temporary at first.
Selecting apartments and locations
If you are willing to accept any apartment type at any location, you can check the ”All housing offers for all housing locations / apartment types” checkbox and you need not make any other selections.
In your application, you may select different apartment types/apartments. The applicant can edit these selections later on the tenant pages using the provided personal credentials.
We recommend using apartment types (the Search location’s apartment types button) when filling in the application, instead of selecting apartments that are shown as available. Information about apartments that are shown as available (using the Search only for currently free apartments button) are not updated in real time but are rather suggestive, and they do not take possible queues for the apartment in question into account. When you select apartment types, selecting the apartment type level (for example studio, one-bedroom apartment, two-bedroom apartment…) and level of furnishing is mandatory. Most apartments are unfurnished. Read more about the equipment in furnished apartments here.
You can add apartment types to your application by clicking the green selection symbol, after which the selection will be dropped to the selected apartments area in the form. In this area you can also edit the order of priority (1-5) of your selections by using the arrows on the right.
Additional application information is a field where you can add any other free-form comments related to your apartment selections. Please provide all the information that you wish TYS to acknowledge when processing your application and sending you offers.
Attach your student certificate here (click Choose file (for example in PDF or JPG format) and then Add, after which you should see the attached file(s) at the bottom of the page in the ”Attachments” section and then click save before moving forward). NB. We cannot process your application and place it in the queue before all the required attachments are included.
The student certificate must include information about your school, the starting date of your studies, and the estimated end date of your studies. The certificate must also be for the current academic year. Approved formats of a student certificate are a certificate of enrolment (you can usually print this from the school’s intranet) or a picture of your student card with the sticker for the academic year. If you are only starting your studies, a letter of acceptance from your school is sufficient.
All applicants who are applying for a student apartment must submit a student certificate. This also applies to internal transfers.
Other attachments may include, for example, a doctor’s certificate related to your housing, etc.
Sending the application
Before you send the application, the last page displays a summary of your application. Check the information carefully, and if you need to make corrections you can go back by using the Previous button. I accept the terms must be checked before the Send application option is shown.
If your application is sent successfully, you will receive an email confirmation as well as credentials for editing your application later and for accepting apartment offers. You can modify the sent application at any time via the tenant pages. If there are changes to your situation, please modify your existing application instead of creating a new one!
