Mid-term Lease Agreement
You can get a mid-term tenant to your apartment for a fixed period of time, if you are not staying at the student apartment because of reason concerning your studies, for example, an internship or exchange studies abroad. The mid-tenant has to be a full-time student in Turku as well, except between May and August. According to the regulations and the governing apartment rental laws you will need the permission of TYS for making a subtenancy agreement. As the tenant you are responsible for the apartment and rents also during mid-term lease agreement. Usually the tenant pays the rent to TYS during this time and then collects it from the mid-term tenant.

Abandonment in Tenancy Agreement
You can apply for an abandonment in tenancy in some cases. Tenancy can be interrupted for a certain period of time in case of e.g. serving in the army, civilian duty, extended illness or exchange studies. You have to terminate your current lease with one month’s notice time, as normally . The agreement of interruption is not enough to terminate your lease.
An interruption of tenancy ensures that when you return to Turku for your studies, you are eligible to an apartment that is equal to the apartment you had when you left. We cannot, however, guarantee you the exactly same apartment. You can apply for an interruption of tenancy by filling in a form and attaching the necessary documents to it. When moving back,you should fill a housing application form on our Tenant Pages three months before arrival. Choose Application reason: “Interruption of tenancy at TYS apartments”.
