All TYS apartments have a free Internet connection called Kyläverkko that is maintained by the IT Management of the University of Turku. The connection uses Ethernet local area -networking technology, so you don’t have to get a modem or a DSL terminal, a computer with a network adapter and Ethernet cable (type RJ45) is sufficient. When tenants sign the lease agreement at the Housing Office they also sign the internet connection agreement and accept the conditions of use.
The network connection is available immediately when moving in. At least one coupling for the network is activated in all apartments. In apartments larger than one-room it is possible to have more than one coupling activated, depending on how the cables have been wired in the apartments. It is thus possible to directly use more than one device in family apartments. It is also possible to split the incoming network connection with a switch or a router.
NB. In renovated apartments in Haliskylä there is also a wireless internet connection. The tenants can log in to the Eduroam and Spark – nets with their own username and password given by their university or school. If you’re not sure which username and password you’d use when you log in to the wireless connection, please contact your university or school to check which network they’re using and which username you need to log in.
