Kyläverkko Internet Connection
All TYS apartments have a free Internet connection called Kyläverkko. The connection uses Ethernet local area-networking technology, so you don’t have to get a modem or a DSL terminal, a computer with a network adapter is sufficient. All you need is a cable wire and the connection should be working.
In order to use the network, you need to sign the connection contract (one per household). The tenant signs the connection agreement and accepts the conditions for use in connection with signing the lease agreement at the housing office. The net connection is available for use by the tenant immediately when moving in. At least one coupling for the net is activated in all apartments. In apartments larger than one-room studios it is possible to have more than one coupling activated, depending on how the cables have been wired in the apartments. It is thus possible to directly use more than one net device in family apartments. It is also possible to split the incoming net connection with a switch or a router.
The Computing Centre takes care of (students at Åbo Akademi should, however, return theirs to Datacentralen: Vänrikinkatu 3) troubleshooting network problems. The Computing Centre’s help desk at Educarium’s fourth floor (Assistentinkatu 5) is open on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3.45 p.m.
