TYS’s newest building project Ikituuri is located in the area in front of Nummenranta between Helsingintie and the western side of the Student Village. Ikituuri is an apartment building for students with 12 floors, totaling 43 meters in height.
The building was designed by architect bureau Sigge Oy (Pekka Mäki). The building is a low energy building based on the values of sustainable development. The building has for example geothermal heating, copper façade and sprinkler system. Special attention has been placed on noise prevention during the planning.
Ikituuri is made up of a triangular base covered in a steel mesh as well as an oval-shaped tower part. The technical spaces, bicycle park and population shelter are located at the street level. In addition the bottom floor works as a buffer against traffic noise. To a large part the bottom floor is made up of glass walls, giving the building a sensation of floating. The apartments are located in the tower part. Up on the 12th floor there is a roof terrace with a glass wall, offering a magnificent view over the city.
