You can apply only via the exchange student application. Applications submitted from any other application form are not considered.
Every exchange student needs to fill in one individual housing application. Please read the instructions and information on this page carefully before filling the application.
If you wish to stay with a friend, both should fill in an individual housing application and write friends name and additional wishes to the application form’s comment field. Also if you have special remarks concerning housing, for example medical reasons, please write these on the application form’s comment field.
After submitting a housing application you will get a password and username to the system via email. If you don’t receive this email or with any other problems in the application/tenant page, please contact email@example.com. From this system TYS shares all tenant information and for example housing offers are accepted. Please note that by filling a housing application it does not mean a reservation and your housing application will be added to the housing queue.
PLEASE NOTE! If you have already submitted an application, do not fill another one in any case. If you wish to change your application, you can do that by logging in to the Tenant Pages with the username and password delivered to you after submitting the application. Double degree Master’s Students are considered as degree students, they need to apply with the normal application, NOT with the Exchange Student application.
Application time for exchange students starts three months before arrival, for Spring 2017 on 1st of October. All applications should be made using application form for exchange students.
The housing agreement is made only for full semesters, meaning also that the rent is paid for the full semesters:
the spring semester is from the beginning of January till the end of May
(1/1/2017 – 31/5/2017)
the whole academic year is from the beginning of January till the end of December
(1/1/2017 – 31/12/2017)
Possible housing offer is sent around 4 – 5 weeks before arrival via the system and you will receive an email notification when the offer has arrived to your Tenant page. Only one housing offer can be send to each exchange student. Please also note that TYS can’t accommodate all exchange students arriving to Turku and the amount of apartments depends on the agreement that TYS has with different universities. The accommodation option you have chosen to the application form is only what applicant prefers, not guaranteed. If we can’t offer you the housing option you prefer, we automatically offer you the other option. No need to fill in a new application for that.
The accepted housing offer is binding, so please check the dates and other details before accepting a housing offer.
After accepting the housing offer in the Tenant pages, a tenant has to pay a deposit payment for the apartment. The deposit for exchange student is 300 €/person. The payment details are provided with the housing offer and in the email notification of the offer. Please note that if someone else makes the payment for you (for example your parents), write down your name to the comments of the payment. This way we know whos payment it is, when the payment arrives to our account. Payments can’t be taken out of your account, so you need to arrange the payment with your bank, usually as an international money transfer. Deposit payment will be returned to tenant’s bank account around four to six weeks after moving out, if the apartment is in good condition and all payments have been paid. Deposit can not be used to pay last rent.
Rent is paid monthly and the due date for paying it is always the 6th of each month. You will receive the rent invoice for your whole stay by email after TYS has received your deposit payment, please use the payment details provided in the invoice. If wished you can also pay the rent for full semester at once. The rent depends on the housing location, apartment, etc. and the exact amount is informed in the housing offer (please check it before accepting the offer). The minimum time of staying is one semester and the rent is also paid for that time, regardless of the actual date of moving in or out. All exchange students’ apartment are furnished with basic furniture and for this reason your rent invoice will show the monthly furniture fee of 15 € per person. The rents informed in this website include this furniture fee.
There will be an admission fee of 60 € for all fixed-term leases that last under 12 months. This invoice will be sent to you at the same time with the rent invoice and is a one time payment.
Please note that it takes some time before the payments are updated to the Tenant Pages. Unfortunately we can’t send email after each payment arrives, but also for this reason all payments are shown under Tenant Pages.
